Project Statement

This is a project I started after being inspired by Jeff Hayes and J Matt Miller's Daily painting blogs. I thought that maybe I could do it also. However, being not as well trained as them, or rather being inexperienced in comparison, I decided to use this as a learning tool. In the beginning I struggled with the idea of whether or not this would be a exercise in creating consistently great paintings, or if the importance instead lay in making sure I touch paint to paper every day. After attempting the first, I soon decided that "you can't win them all" and scaled my ambitions back to the pure task of painting every day. I've learned a lot of my flaws through these exercises, and am constantly progressing, trying to stamp those weaknesses out and grow as an artist. It is inspiring to look back at the first month, cringe, and then flip through to see the progression I have come from. In a few months I have already gained confidence through my brushstrokes, and paint application.
Especially important, through the overload of both school and work, its fun to find time in which I can sit down and paint something, anything. In the days when it feels like all I ever do is sleep and work, this has been my salvation, the little light kept burning, letting me know I'm still working towards my goals.
